Student Teaching
For my student teaching experience, I was placed in the Hollidaysburg Area School District from January 7 to May 11, 2009. My emphasis area was elementary general music with Martha Miller at Foot of Ten Elementary School, and my non-emphasis area was junior high band with Kris Laird at the Hollidaysburg Area Junior High School. I was at each placement for the full semester, working at the elementary school for three full days out of the five day cycle, and the junior high for two full days.
At the elementary school, I worked with the kindergarten, first, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade classes. I observed one of Mrs. Miller's elementary choirs a few times, but did not get to work with them. At the junior high, I worked with the 7th Grade Band, Concert Band (8th and 9th grade), Symphonic Band (top 8th and 9th grade students), After School Jazz Band, and During School Jazz Band (8th and 9th grade). I also worked with band students during school in their group lessons. I loved the experience with my co-ops and all of the students.
